Maggie Harris

December 31, 1969 — December 6, 2021

Maggie Harris went to her eternal life over the Rainbow Bridge on December 6, 2021. She was a hound-mix and the kindest and most gentle loving dog you could ever ask for. She would look at you with those beautiful brown eyes and simply say “give me love”. Maggie was born on June 29, 2010 and was adopted/rescued by her forever parents on February 18, 2012 from the Humane Society of Catawba County in Hickory. On her adoption day she looked at her future parents and said “pick me, pick me”. But first we had to have a “test drive” and see if she was a good walker. She did not disappoint as she took her future Dad on a vigorous walk through the woods. She was a keeper and we took her home as she sat in the back of our SUV and looked out the back at the Humane Society as we drove off and she must have thought “free at last”.

Maggie lived the good life and shared the king bed with her parents. Once she got position she was like a rock and it was hard to move her over but she would eventually cuddle up close for that feeling of security and love. She had several of her own beds throughout the house and was always comfortable with her stuffed toys. Maggie was quite the fashion diva too. Her Mom always bought her bandanas for every occasion and season…she had quite the wardrobe. Maggie especially looked cute in anything Snoopy and she was a fan favorite anywhere she went.

From the beginning to the end Maggie always received the best of veterinarian care at Countryside Pet Hospital in Conover. She put a love spell on Dr. Gary Boston and the entire Countryside staff. They were her best friends and extended family and she received nothing but love and the best care over the years. In her final months suffering from kidney failure she went for thrice weekly fluid treatments. All of her staff buddies got to take turns giving Maggie her fluid and cuddling on her special blanket. They always said that a lot of kisses were always shared…that was our Maggie…full of love to the end. There are not enough words of gratitude and sincere love and appreciation for Maggie’s care from each individual of our Countryside family.

We must also thank the Jenkins family Caring Cremations in Hickory for their professional and compassionate care for our Maggie as she began her journey over the Rainbow Bridge. Ben Jenkins and Racheal Hester were both exceptional with the arrangement planning and helping us feel at ease that Maggie was treated with the upmost dignity and care.

Maggie is survived by her forever parents, Leroy and Karen Harris of Hickory and her big brother Kevin Harris of Conover. Before Maggie joined our family there were two other fur babies who both preceded her in death, Brandy a lab mix and a little mixed pup Jack. We know that Maggie is now with Brandy and Jack over the Rainbow Bridge and sharing all of their good times spent with their adopted Harris family. Ironically both Maggie and Brandy went to their eternal life the same day December 6 (Maggie in 2021 and Brandy 2011). A tough day that will always be in our hearts and memories.

Our love for Maggie was unconditional and her love for us was the same. We are broken hearted but we know she is in a much better place over the Rainbow Bridge. While Maggie is no longer by our sides, she will always be in our hearts.
